Pediatric Ophthalmology and Squint Services

Eye Exams

Regular eye exams are crucial for children’s eye health. It is recommended that children have their first eye exam at 6 months of age, followed by another at age 3. After starting school, annual eye exams should be scheduled to ensure proper vision care.

Paediatric Ophthalmology

Our dedicated team specialises in paediatric ophthalmology, providing comprehensive treatment for a wide range of eye conditions that affect children. We have expertise in managing sight-threatening conditions such as paediatric glaucoma, cataract, and congenital opacities of the cornea.

We also have comprehensive services in:

1 Squint Management: We are equipped to handle the diagnosis and treatment of squint, also known as strabismus. Squint is a condition in which the eyes do not align properly. Our early detection methods enable us to provide effective treatment options.

2 Amblyopia Management: Amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye, refers to reduced vision that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Our team specialises in managing this condition to ensure optimal vision development.

3 Refraction in Young Children: We utilise eye drops to perform refraction tests in young children who may not be able to respond to traditional methods. This allows us to accurately assess their vision needs.

4 General Eye Problem Management: We also offer comprehensive care for general eye problems in children, including eye soreness, allergic conjunctivitis, and eyelid lumps.

Squint

Squint, also known as strabismus, is a condition characterised by misalignment of the eyes. One eye may turn inwards, upwards, downwards, or outwards, while the other eye focuses at a single spot. Early diagnosis of squint is crucial for more effective treatment outcomes.

Amblyopia

Amblyopia, commonly referred to as lazy eye, is a condition where there is reduced vision that cannot be fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses. It is not caused by any eye disease, but rather a lack of proper brain processing of images from the amblyopic eye. Although it typically affects only one eye, it can lead to reduced vision in both eyes.
